Earthquake Relief Efforts in Unreached Villages

As per news on Sunday, Nov 12, 2017, a 7.3 magnitude earthquake struck Iran/‌Iraq border. Hundreds of people were killed and thousands injured. Some cities are receiving rescue efforts, but many rural villages are NOT getting any governmental support right now.

One of our members, Pardis G., has initiated fundraising to support the emergency relief efforts run by three of her relatives/friends in Iran. They live two hours away by car from the border, and are hastily purchasing water, blankets and food, delivering them in one of their own vehicles (see photos attached). This is a completely voluntary effort, using personal funds.

Graduate students and faculty in the Mechanical Engineering Department have begun making contributions. We'll have our final numbers in the days to come! If you'd like to contribute (any amount helps), please contact Pardis at megsa.yorku@gmail.com immediately. Thank you!
